MicroE Introduces Mercury 1000 Analog Encoder
Shortest Z Height
High Performance
Same Sensor for Linear & Rotary

Now engineers can improve system performance while cutting costs.

For years engineers have awaited the development of a high performance analog encoder with ultra low Z height. Available encoders were either too tall or too slow for many applications. Now the Mercury 1000 solves these problems. It is smaller, faster, and less expensive than any encoder in its class. The sensor is just 8.4 mm tall and it’s compatible with both linear and rotary applications. It features sine/cosine output with a fundamental linear resolution of 20 microns; rotary resolution is 2500 to 16,384 CPR. Customer electronics can interpolate resolution up to x256; a digital index window output is also standard.

The M1000’s accuracy is outstanding: standard linear accuracy is ± 3 to ± 5 microns with ± 1 micron available. Rotary accuracy is up to ± 2.1 arc-seconds. According to Don Mitchell, founder and CTO, “The M1000 opens up new possibilities by enabling smaller, lighter equipment designs that deliver higher speed and greater throughput.”

In addition to high performance, the M1000 is easier to install and align than any other analog encoder. Using the SmartPrecision‘ Alignment Tool, installation and alignment can be completed in minutes. What’s more, performance is optimized automatically. By pressing the set up button on the Alignment Tool, SmartPrecision gain and offset adjustments are automatically tuned for the highest accuracy. No test equipment is needed; adjustment pots have been eliminated.

The M1000 was engineered for the toughest environments. The entire system is EMI shielded for noise immunity and designed for front mount compatibility. Unshielded styles are also available for direct mounting within a shielded module on a PC board.

A variety of standard cable lengths are available as well as a selection of glass linear and rotary scales. Contact MicroE sales for pricing and delivery.
