A new product guide that provides an overview of four product families and 15 models of compact optical encoders which are ideally suited for use in closed-loop motion control systems is being offered by MicroE Systems of Natick, Massachusetts. The guide also describes the patented sensor technology, SmartPrecision electronics, SmartPrecision encoder software

The Mercury™ Encoder Technology Product Guide describes four families:
Programmable Encoders featuring SmartPrecision™ electronics, programmable resolution, and LED alignment indicators; Digital Output Encoders available in four resolutions; Analog Output Encoders for use with a customer's interpolation electronics; and Vacuum Hardened Encoders rated for 10-8 Torr and designed for 48-hour bake out at 150°C.

Featuring product descriptions, photographs, and specifications for this product line, the 6-page guide compares the 15 models that offer resolution ranges out to 5 nanometers and configurations for a wide range of applications. At the heart of the Mercury™ Encoder is a patented sensor which is only 8.4 mm tall, the size of a dime, and about one-third the size of other high performance encoders.
